Youth In Revolt(2010)
Directed by Miguel Arteta
Starring:Michael Cera & Portia Doubleday
"Be bad Nick, be really bad"
Backdrop:
Nick Twisp, a 16 year old virgin whose days consist of Frank Sinatra records and jerking off, meets and falls in love with the beautiful, French inspired, Sheeni Saunders, when him, his mom and her trashy boyfriend leave town to escape angry sailors. When Nick learns of Sheeni’s boyfriend, Trent, who writes poetry, windsurfs and wears sweater vests, he is willing to do anything for her love and affection. To win her heart and beat Trent, he takes on an alter ego, François, wearing tight white pants and leather shoes, smoking a cigarette and speaking in a sharp French accent, always.
When his mother tells him they're suddenly moving back to their home town, Sheeni and Nick are devistated. To let their love flourish, they decide the only way they can be together is if Nick gets kicked out of his home and sent to live with his father, near Sheeni's location. Nick thinks and thinks of what he could possibly do to get kicked out, but nothing comes to mind. You then hear a match strike, to clearly light a cigarette, francios apears and next thing you know, the town is in flames and Nick is sent to live with his jobless father. Ironically enough, Sheeni is sent away to french boarding school the same week Nick returns to town and ofcourse, Trent will also be attending . Francios kicks in, and soon enough, a sneek visit to the all girl's dorm is abound. While Nick is there, he meets and befriends a girl, who in the long run turns him in for being in the girls dorm after hours, and as fast as he travels to the dorm, he is sending her sleeping pills to slip into Sheeni's drinks, so she will get expelled for sleeping in class and return home were their family will be reunited.
With Trent and the cops after him, and a girl to win, the ending is anything but boring. Filled with an adrenaline pumping chase and love scene, the ending leaves you happy, on the edge of your seat, laughing.
If you appreciated Micheal Cera's performance in Youth in Revolt, be sure to check out his showings in Superbad(2007) Juno(2007)
